So today was the second Advent Sunday, the Sunday of Peace and yet this world has shown itself to be anything but peaceful. Killings abound, innocents suffer and we are left wondering about Peace. We look around and see shoppers hustling about, drivers with road rage impatience and multiple other examples of un-Peace. Surely the Lord must be wailing with despair as He looks upon this earth and yet He persists in pursuing us passionately, with grace and love and continually whispering “come to me all who are weary and I will give you rest” but I wonder if anyone is listening. This past week I was listening and while singing a song last Sunday the youngest got upset, heart racing, face flushed, shaking all signs of anxiety so I asked ” do you feel ok” He responded” I don’t think so” and so the follow up question was about the song ” do you think it is because we are singing about stars ?”  “Yes, isn’t that crazy”, he said.  I knew he had a thing about planets because I had to change his screensaver on his computer because it was to hard for him to look at but I was truly amazed that singing about stars could cause such a reaction. So no more songs about stars although today there were a couple of mentions about stars and he did fine, after all this is the season when there is a lot about the Star of Behlehem and the wonder of it all. Perhaps we should all just pause, take a deep breathe and listen for that still small voice because in this broken noisy world a whisper can hardly be heard much less obeyed with all the noise. And just to remember Jesus said ” Peace I leave with you , my peace I give you I do not give to you as the world gives Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” John 14:27-28. So in all this broken world with craziness from singing about stars and other things let us cling to the Hope and Peace in this season and for eternity, because sometimes hope and peace come in the strangest times and places.
